La cocagnière...

We searched long and hard to find a perfect location where we could realise our project. This was, to build a beautiful house where we could live, enjoy the pleasures of the countryside around us and invite others to share this experience.

niche03.jpg Legend has it that the population of this area was wealthy and it was known as “Triangle d’Or” –The Golden Triangle– Toulouse, Albi and Carcassonne.

It was here that the rural population produced a natural dye from heating the leaves of the plant “Isatis Tinctoria”, producing a magnificent blue dye. Often known as “chariot blue” due to the country folks fondness of using the dregs of the vats to paint their carts, this colour could be seen on doors, window frames and shutters throughout the region. This extraordinary colour not only enhanced the local dwellings but was also believed to be effective in repelling mosquitoes and other insects.
